It is no secret that relationships require work and attention to be successful and fulfilling. We have all heard that within a committed relationship, we should love the other, "in sickness and in health." But, what happens when mental illness enters the equation? This course is meant to offer tools to therapists to assist couples to more effectively navigate relationship issues when one or both experience symptoms of mental illness.

Objectives include:
•    Identify effective communication strategies (including what not to say)
•    recognize when additional resources are needed to address issues in the relationship
•    recognize the importance of self care as a necessary tool within a successful relationship
•    identify when a relationship may not be able to be salvaged

Laura is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and received her Masters degree from Wheaton College. Laura specializes and is clinically trained in the area of marriage/family counseling. Laura also works with individual adults who present with various concerns including depression, relational issues, anxiety, some forensic work, life transitions, grief, and life coaching. Laura works with clients to ameliorate psychological and emotional pain with caring, compassionate counseling. Her approach to therapy is straightforward, honest, empathetic, and relational. Laura's goal is to assist client's to modify their ineffective thoughts and behavior patterns to better achieve their life goals, arriving with a sense of contentment, fulfillment, and resolution. While clinically trained in the area of marriage and family therapy, I see adults who present with various concerns (for example: depression, relational issues, anxiety, and some forensic work, life coaching).
